The Board of Trustees of Menlo College announced Sept. 5 the selection of Dr. Timothy Haight as the college’s eighth president. Haight, currently dean of the College of Business and Economics at California State University, Los Angeles, will assume the presidency Jan. 1.

Menlo College currently serves five students from Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. Nearly 150 alumni of the college live in the Los Altos area.

According to Board of Trustees Chairman Russell Frankel, “Dr. Haight’s extensive practical and academic business experience made him a perfect choice to fulfill the Menlo promise to train the next generation of business leaders.”

“It is an honor to have been chosen to lead Menlo College,” Haight said. “I believe that its size and proximity to the world’s most entrepreneurial and innovative companies will enable the college to develop graduates who will be socially responsible and will make significant contributions to our global society. Clearly, Menlo College’s ‘learn by living’ philosophy is well-suited to the development of the knowledge, skills and abilities that Menlo students will need to be competitive in an environment in which the only constant is change.”

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
