HGTV shines spotlight on Los Altos company

Home and Garden Television (HGTV) featured Los Altos-based FreeHand Systems Inc.’s latest product recently.

“I Want That! Tech Toys,” an HGTV program that promotes the latest high-tech home entertainment products, computers, home security systems and other gadgets, showcased the digital music company’s MusicPad Pro.

The MusicPad Pro enables musicians to display and publish digitally delivered sheet music. Users can scan printed sheet music and convert it to electronic format. More than 85,000 titles are available to download from the company’s Web site, www.freehandmusic.com.

Additional features of the MusicPad Pro tablet include note-making abilities and turning pages of the score by touching the screen of the 4-pound device. Artists such as Sting, Herbie Hancock and Etta James use the MusicPad Pro.

Founded in March 2001, FreeHand Systems creates technologies to distribute and store sheet music. The company released the MusicPad Pro, which sells for $1,199, in January 2003.

The HGTV episode will re-air 9 p.m. Sept. 27, 1 a.m. Sept. 28, 1:30 p.m. Oct. 1, 11 p.m. Oct. 6 and 3 a.m. Oct. 7 on HGTV.

Whole Foods Market to open this month

Whole Foods Market, a natural and organic foods supermarket, is scheduled to open a Los Altos store this month. Part of a multiple store strategic growth plan, the Los Altos market will be the first of 12 stores currently in development to open.

Located on the site of former office space, the 55,000-square-foot store will emphasize fresh produce, chef-prepared foods, baked goods, natural meats and seafood.

The new Los Altos store is located at 4800 West El Camino Real and will be open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. For more information, call 559-0300.

Holden named bank director

The Board of Directors of The Private Bank of the Peninsula elected President Rob Holden to the position of director at its August board meeting.
