Little Prodigy Preschool, a new home-based preschool in Los Altos, is taking registration for its program, which focuses on teaching virtues at a young age.
“We feel the key elements of a child’s development are not centered around academics alone but include creativity and social development,” said Tina Parvini, preschool director.
Parvini, who previously taught a Sunday school series based on virtues, thought children don’t get the chance to learn virtues such as love, kindness, respect and patience in most schools.
“Virtues are a very important aspect in the lives of children,” Parvini said. “Each day of working with the children brings a fresh opportunity for guiding them at teachable moments.”
Parvini said she wants the children to discover the virtues they possess. Parvini hopes that repetitive teaching through virtue-focused activities will help the children learn.
“The goal of this program is to let children know that they already possess virtues latent within themselves. The virtues are the hidden gems that need to be developed and worked on to reach there full potential,” she said.
Though the focus of the preschool is virtue, Parvini said there will be the regular academic activities appropriate for preschool as well. Since the program is in its first year and run out of a home in Los Altos, Parvini has eight spots to fill in the preschool. Instruction at the preschool begins on Monday.
Parvini is a recent graduate from San Jose State University where she majored in psychology and minored in child development.
