Waldorf School sponsors workshop

Waldorf School of the Peninsula has scheduled a hands-on workshop for teachers of kindergarten and grades 1-2 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at its campus, 11311 Mora Dr., Los Altos.

The workshop, which costs $200, is designed to engage participants in the integration of language arts, number skills, music, storytelling, movement, nature study and arts and crafts in the curriculum.

The Underground bids goodbye to summer

Los Altos teens are invited to enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers, contests and games at the Underground Teen Center end-of-summer BBQ Blowout noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 22.

The Underground, located at the back of the Garden House in Shoup Park, off University Avenue in Los Altos, is a free, drop-in facility that offers a wide variety of recreational activities designed to offer teens a fun, safe place to relax. The Underground boasts pool and air hockey tables, foosball, Xbox, PS2, music and computers for gaming, and a big-screen TV. The Underground sells snacks for a small fee.

The Underground is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 12-6 p.m. through Aug. 22. Beginning Aug. 25, the Underground will be open 3:30-6:30 p.m. Fridays and 2-8 p.m Saturdays. For more information, visit www.ci.los-altos.ca.us/recreation.

Freestyle High opens doors to public

Freestyle High, a technology academy in the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District set to open this fall, has scheduled an open house 5-7 p.m. Aug. 21.

The public is invited to tour the campus and speak with students and staff. The event will include refreshments, music and door prizes.

Freestyle High is located at 1299 Bryant Ave., Mountain View, behind the district offices.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
