William and Patricia Samuels, 60 years

Retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. William and Patricia Samuels celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary July 28 at Ristorante Bella Vita in Los Altos, followed by a dessert reception at their home in Los Altos Hills.

They met in Seattle in 1945 where both were stationed at Sand Point Naval Base following World War II, and married in July 1946.

Pat retired from the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service). Bill stayed in the military and rose to commander.

They were stationed in Japan for two years. After Bill retired from the Navy, the couple settled in the Bay Area where Bill enjoyed a second career as a teacher at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale.

They have five sons and 10 grandchildren.
