JEANNINE MILDRED MOLL

January 26, 1929 - June 23, 2006

Jeannine Moll, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away suddenly on the morning of June 23, 2006 in Sunnyvale, California. She was 77.

Jeannine was born in Mount Vernon, Washington and grew up in Northwest Washington, graduating from Western Washington University with a B.A. in Education. A 50 year resident of California, she was an elementary school educator in Southern California before moving to Los Altos in 1967 where she worked for the State Employment Department in Palo Alto and Mountain View until her retirement. Jeannine moved to Sunnyvale in 1994.

She was a long time member of the Federated Women’s Club of Los Altos and the Los Altos-Mountain View Chapter of the American Association of University Women. She enjoyed the many friendships she made there and at the Sunnyvale and Cupertino Senior Centers.

She loved gardening, travel, reading, bridge, theater, and cheering for the Giants and 49ers. She also loved attending all her grandchildren’s activities as they grew up. She’ll be remembered as a loving soul whose kindness, warmth and sense of humor touched all our hearts.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bob Visini of Sunnyvale, her son, Bryan Moll of Chico, her sisters, Janet Berger and Barbara Lee of Bow, Washington, her grandchildren Scott, Adam and Linsay Colombo and step-grandchildren, David, Benjamin and Teresa Visini.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in her name. A memorial service was held on July 7th at the Los Altos United Methodist Church.

JUDITH BURRILL

Judith Burrill of Portola Valley, CA and Dorset, VT passed away at her Peninsula home on June 26, 2006 after a three-year battle with cancer. The memory of Judith lives on in the hearts of her daughter, Suzanne Dortch, of Cincinnati, OH, her son Geoffrey Dortch and two granddaughters, Amanda and Elizabeth Dortch, all of Fremont, CA, and her brother, Douglas Burrill, and two nieces, Cecily and Julia Burrill, all of San Francisco.

Judy was born December 12, 1940 in New York City, the daughter of Cecil and Virginia Burrill. She grew up in Chappaqua, NY, attended Horace Greeley High School and Denison University, and graduated from North Central College, Naperville, IL in 1972. She had a lifelong love of theater and performed in the stock companies of the Putnam Valley Playhouse (NY) and the Dorset Playhouse (VT). Judy worked tirelessly as a Conservation Specialist for Pacific Gas & Electric for 15 years, initiating the Burrowing Owl preservation project at Shoreline Park in Mountain View, CA, before retiring in 1999. Judy then began to indulge her passion for travel, visiting every continent except Antarctica (and that was next). Judy inspired her family and friends throughout her life with her service, teachings and the unconditional love she shared with everyone around her. She devotedly served Quota Club International for many years as President of her Cupertino Branch and Lt. Governor of her District. She was an active member of the De Anza Commission, serving the Foothill-De Anza Community College District.

Judy was very involved in the Ladera Community Church, 3300 Alpine Road, Portola Valley 94028, serving as deacon, helping with the children’s theater program and running the sound board. A memorial service was held at Ladera Community Church on Sunday, July 9th. The family suggests donations be made in Judy’s name to Quota International’s “We Share Foundation” or the Ladera Community Church.

Years later he also received an MBA from the University of Santa Clara. He married Suzanne Payne in 1965 and, although they divorced after ten years of marriage, they continued to remain friends in the raising of their two children.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
