Host families needed

Families are needed to host students from China going to De Anza College (by bus) for two weeks this summer. The host dates are July 22 through August 3 and reimbursement is $600 for room and board. For more information, call Kristi Clarke at 949-3091 or e-mail k.clarke@mindspring.com.

Foothill commencement set for June 30

Foothill College has scheduled its 46th annual commencement ceremony 6 p.m. June 30 in the Library Quad. Admission to the commencement ceremony is free and tickets are not required. Families and guests are invited to attend. Arrive early to locate parking and seating. Graduates, faculty and staff marching in the procession should meet for line-up instructions at 5:15 p.m. in the Smithwick Theatre.

Foothill piano students hold recital

Foothill’s beginning, intermediate and advanced piano performance students will present a recital 10 a.m June 24 in Appreciation Hall (Room 1501). Admission is free.

When members of the Los Altos Village Association first created the summer movie nights, they anticipated an event that would attract more residents downtown as a way to promote business.

What they didn’t anticipate was an influx of middle schoolers, or that parents would use the weekly Friday night affair as an opportunity to drop off their children and have someone else (in this case, the Village Association) effectively watch over them.
