Kepler’s showcases local authors

Kepler’s Authors Showcase turns toward summer relaxation and highlights mystery, thrillers, filmography, travel and local authors in June. At Kepler’s this week:

Sheerly Avni: ‘Cinema By the Bay’

Sheerly Avni will discuss her book, “Cinema By the Bay,” 7:30 p.m. June 23. Her book, about Northern California film directors, profiles the Bay Area’s studios and directors, taking the reader on a guided tour through their histories and films, and includes filmographies, milestones, awards and trivia.

Stevie Smit ‘Pedaling

to Hawaii’

Tonight at 7:30 Stevie Smith will share his human-powered odyssey. Smith, an out-of-shape, inexperienced and broke young bureaucrat, set out to circumnavigate the globe by bicycle, pedal boat and in-line skates.

Susan Kandel: ‘Shamus in

the Green Room’

Susan Kandel will read from her third Cece Caruso mystery 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The tall, 40-ish, vintage-fashion-fixated heroine, a biographer, finds herself consulting on a movie based on her new book, “Dash!” starring heartthrob Rafe Simic.

Kepler’s Books is located at 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park. For more information, call 324-4321 or visit www.keplers.com.
