Building fire
May 17, 12:21 a.m., 1000 block of Castro Street, Mountain View: five fire departments responded to a 4-alarm roof fire that destroyed 4 businesses causing more than $1 million of damage. No injuries were reported. Firefighters from Mountain View, Palo Alto, Moffet-Ames, Sunnyvale and Santa Clara County fire departments were unable to tackle the fire from inside the building, instead flowing 5,000 gallons of water a minute onto the building from above. The fire was extinguished by 2 a.m. Lynn Brown of the Mountain View Fire Department said an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire was scheduled after the Town Crier went to press.
DUI-related accident
May 17, 5:55 p.m., 500 block of Almond Avenue: Peter Hubbard, 18, and John Staskus, 18, were contacted by police after both were involved in a non-injury traffic collision on Clark Avenue at Jay Street. Both were charged with driving under the influence and booked at the county jail.
Dead body
May 21, 9:14 a.m., 300 block of Yerba Buena Place: Unknown male body found. The deceased is believed to have drowned. An investigation is ongoing.
Burglary
May 15, 9:30 p.m., 1600 Kensington Avenue: Residence entered forcefully and a desktop computer with an estimated value of $1,500 was stolen.
