Main Street Cafe showcases local artists

Local artists from Viewpoints Gallery, Art21 and Dramatic Landscapes Photography Gallery are exhibiting their work through May 31 at Main Street Cafe & Books, 134 Main St., Los Altos.

The 2006 spring gallery collection was assembled from local professional and teaching artists. The show’s 30 pieces include works in oil, watercolor, mixed media and pastel from 17 artists. The collection is an invitational sponsored by the Los Altos Cultural Association and highlights the work of local artists with strong regional and national reputations. Many are instructors who teach locally.

Exhibiting artists include Ed Terpening, Oil Painters of America; Terry Ford, Pastel Society of America - Signature Member; Mathias Van Hesemans, former Ansel Adams Gallery instructor; and Will Maller, National Parks and Monuments commissions.

Realtors seek nominees for volunteer award

Nominations are being sought for the 43rd Annual Silicon Valley Association of Realtors (SILVAR) Community Service Award for the Los Altos/Mountain View district.

The award winner will be honored Sept. 12 at a luncheon at Michaels at Shoreline, Mountain View.

The Los Altos Board of Realtors established the Community Service Award in 1964 as an expression of appreciation for unsung community volunteers. The Silicon Valley realtors honor an individual whose service exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism in Los Altos, Los Altos Hills or Mountain View.

The public is urged to make nominations. Nominees cannot belong to SILVAR and cannot receive a salary for their community contributions.

Nominations must be submitted by Aug. 11 to the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors, Attn: CSA, 19400 Stevens Creek Blvd., Suite 100, Cupertino 95014.

Library offers teens job-hunting tips

The Los Altos main library is scheduled to host a program for teens applying for summer jobs and internships today at 4 p.m., 13 S. San Antonio Road. NOVA, a non-profit employment and training agency, will offer tips on interviewing and filling out resumes.

Nature calls at Hidden Villa

Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills is seeking volunteer farm/nature guides to introduce schoolchildren to farm animals, to explore the vegetable garden and to hike in the wilderness area. Guides are needed for the general public on weekends. Training is provided.

Red Cross offers free preparedness classes

The Palo Alto Area Chapter of the American Red Cross has scheduled a series of classes on earthquake preparedness 7-8 p.m. June 12 at 400 Mitchell Lane, Palo Alto (call for directions).

The classes will address the questions: How prepared are you for the next earthquake? Do you have all your emergency supplies ready? Do you know what you should do in the event of one happening?

Homebound seniors need volunteer drivers

Community Services Agency aims to help homebound seniors live healthy and independent lives and to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.

The agency is seeking volunteers who can drive seniors to and from medical appointments.
