Santa Rita PTA hosts potluck picnic for Peck

Santa Rita school is holding a potluck picnic in honor of Stephen Peck’s retirement May 30 for all Santa Rita students, families, staff and alumni. The picnic will be on the sixth-grade park and play fields 6-8 p.m. The PTA is asking that people bring a favorite family food to share and picnic blankets. Water, dessert and entertainment will be provided.

MVLA holds reception introducing Groves

Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District invites the community to the Los Altos Community House to meet its new superintendent, Barry Groves, 4-6 p.m. May 30. Groves replaces Superintendent Rich Fischer, who is retiring at the conclusion of the school year.

Homestead wins business championship

Homestead High School won the Future Business Leaders of America state championship sweepstakes for a record eighth consecutive time at the group’s State Leadership Conference in Irvine last month.

Homestead’s victory surpasses the previous record of seven straight titles held by Lynbrook High School.

The State Leadership Conference is an annual, comprehensive, competitive program. Individuals, teams and local chapters compete in 43 events representing a wide range of activities in business knowledge, technology, presentation of projects and leadership development.

The conference included more than 1,000 students from 80 California schools. Seventy-six plaques were awarded to Homestead students, and 25 students qualified to compete in events at the group’s National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn., June 27-July 2.

Lively performs ‘Gold Rush!’ at Loyola

The Lively Foundation will perform “The Gold Rush!” at Loyola Elementary School 1 and 1:45 p.m. May 25. “The Gold Rush!” is a performance that combines music popular in the 1850s, dances, authentic costumes, narration taken from letters written by miners and projections of archival photographs, prints and engravings.

Loyola is located at 770 Berry Ave. in Los Altos.

National Art Honor Society hosts

art auction and spaghetti dinner

The National Art Honor Society is scheduled to host a dinner and silent auction of student work 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mountain View High School. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the MVHS National Art Honor Society.

The evening is open to the community. Dinner costs $10 for adults, $5 for children 11 and younger.

Mountain View High School is located at 3535 Truman Ave.

Bubba Gong celebrates

20th anniversary at Foothill

Bubba Gong, the first dance instructor hired at Foothill College and founder and artistic director of the award-winning intercollegiate dancers, is scheduled to celebrate his 20th anniversary season 7:30 p.m. June 2 and 3 at Smithwick Theatre.

The two-hour production will feature 100 students, alumni and guest artists from the community in jazz, ballet, tap, modern, ballroom and world dance.

Tickets - $25 general, $100 patron - are available at the box office and at the door on the night of the performances.

Foothill College is located at 12345 S. El Monte Road in Los Altos Hills.
