LAH celebrates 50th with June picnic
The 9th annual Los Altos Hills Town Picnic is scheduled 1-4 p.m. June 4 at the Little League fields on Purissima Road at Viscaino Road.
The picnic is part of the town’s 50th anniversary celebration. Each resident who registers will receive a gift commemorating the anniversary.
The picnic features entertainment, games and other attractions, as well as a free lunch. Firefighters from Santa Clara County Firefighters Local #1165 will prepare the food, including chicken, all-beef hot dogs and vegetarian meals, served with their Firefighters’ Chili, tossed salad and garlic bread. Soft drinks, beer, wine and ice cream sundaes will be provided.
Since the town hosts the event at no charge, the picnic is limited to Los Altos Hills residents. Advance registration is required by May 22.

Redwood Grove kicks off first fund-raiser
Redwood Grove Nature Preserve, under Program Director Keith Gutierrez, has launched its first communitywide fund-raising project in support of program enrichments including upgrading the animal enclosures, purchase of materials and classroom improvements. The unique fund-raiser will invite each family who donates to one of three scheduled special events: 10-11:30 a.m. Sunday, a Sharing Nature with Children workshop; 10 a.m. to noon June 4, Ohlone Day at Redwood Grove; and 10 a.m. to noon June 11, a Gold Rush program.
Redwood Grove offers one of the most successful programs in the Bay Area. It presents programs in archery, nature classes, blacksmithing classes, school field trips on historical topics and a summer camp attended by more than 5,000 children each year.
Gutierrez has taught environmental education for more than 25 years in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. Except for the summer camp and birthday parties, he developed all the programs offered at Redwood Grove and maintains the 5.7-acre property.

Friends of Westwind sponsors dressage clinic
Friends of Westwind Barn is sponsoring a clinic with Erik Herbermann, a master of classical equine dressage, at Westwind Community Barn Friday through Tuesday. Herbermann is known internationally for his dedication to the classical ideals of horsemanship.
Space is limited, but those wishing to learn more about classical dressage can audit clinics for a fee.

Bike to Work Day set for Thursday
The Bay Area Bicycle Coalition has scheduled its 12th annual Bike to Work Day for Thursday. The designated day offers opportunities to meet other cyclists get exercise and discover efficient routes around town.
In addition to the participation of individual bikers for the day, this year the coalition will launch a Team Bike Challenge that will last through the month of May. Bicyclists are encouraged to form teams of five. Team members can record as many trips as possible by bike during the month of May.
The winning team will receive prizes including a bike rack placed in a location of their choice. All registrants will have a chance to win additional prizes.

Wildlife Rescue seeks volunteers
Wildlife Rescue in Palo Alto needs volunteers to help care for more than 2,000 injured and orphaned animals every year.
