Shakespeare Camp comes to Los Altos this summer

The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, which has held summer camps throughout the Bay Area for 14 years, will bring its Shakespeare Camp to Los Altos this summer. The Los Altos sessions, designed for aspiring thespians ages 7-13, is scheduled Aug. 7-18 at Christ Episcopal Church, 1040 Border Road.

The sessions run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with optional aftercare available until 5:30 p.m. The camp is $395, or $520 with aftercare. Scholarships are available for students with financial need.

In addition to their stage credentials, the theater professionals who conduct the camps are trained teachers and camp counselors. Sessions are designed to instill a sense of fun and creative exploration while developing and refining the skills used for performance. Campers develop vocal projection techniques and improvisation skills while learning to master the Bard’s verse. They design and make their costumes, props and sets, learn stage combat and combine these skills in a performance on the last day.

To enroll in Bay Area Shakespeare Camp, or for more information on camps for older teens, call (415) 558-0888 or (800) 978-PLAY or visit www.sfshakes.org.
