ISADORE WILSON

On April 30, Isadore Wilson went to join the Lord. The prior Tuesday, after spending the afternoon in her garden, enjoying her flowers and the lovely spring weather, she collapsed and never regained consciousness. Isadore was a beloved member of her community, active in the Los Altos Methodist Church and a Stephen Ministry Leader (lay minister). Born in Carroll, Nebraska on June 12, 1913.

She grew up on the family farm in northeast Nebraska. Her parents were Arthur and Alice Williams, sister, Ida Mae Arnold and brother, Willard (deceased). She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Don and her devoted children: Roger (Dao), Larry (Ann), Joyce (Bill), Gordon and Nancy (Ric). Loved by her grandchildren: Craig Wilson, Donald Wilson (Charis), Christopher Elkins, Eve Elkins, Anna Hodgkinson, Joseph Hodgkinson, Kiersten Helgeson, Aaron Helgeson (Jen), Bret Milner (Romiah) and Kevin Hong. Beloved sister of Ida Mae Arnold (Max) and aunt of Nancy Brixey (Gary Brasser). Friends are invited to a memorial service at the Los Altos Methodist Church on Monday, May 15 at 3:00.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Los Altos Methodist Church Youth Fund.

ARTHUR S. HARRIS

Arthur passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 27, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Andrea; adult children, Sheryl and Laurence Harris; and granddaughter, Brianna. Arthur dedicated his life to the education of children. He has been a principal at Blach Middle School for over 12 years, and before that, was a teacher and principal for 22 years in the Alum Rock School District in San Jose. He loved his work. Arthur was a founding member of Congregation Shir Hadash in Los Gatos, and served the congregation in many ways. He was the administrator of the religious school high school program, served on the Religious School Advisory Committee, and taught the Confirmation class, as well as serving on Rabbi and Educator search committees and helping to mentor professional staff. He gave his Temple service from the heart, and was personally rewarded by the many opportunities to serve the community. He was loved by many and will be missed. A funeral service was held on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at Congregation Shir Hadash, 20 Cherry Blossom Lane in Los Gatos, followed by burial. WILLOW GLEN FUNERAL CHAPEL, San Jose, served the family.

SHERMAN “JAN” GARBER

Former Covington and Blach Middle School principal Sherman “Jan” Garber passed away on April 30 in Cameron Park, CA after a brief illness. He was 84.

Jan was born Feb. 13, 1922 in Wauwatosa, WI. The youngest of two children, he was raised in Oshkosh, WI, and served in the US Navy on the USS Intrepid during WW II. Following the war, he married his bride Helyn, graduated from the University of Wisconsin, and received his Master’s Degree from Stanford.

Jan began his teaching career in Ravenswood School District (East Palo Alto) and served as the principal for Belle Haven, O’Connor, and Kavanaugh elementary schools. In 1967 he was named principal at Covington where he spent many enjoyable years before his transfer to Blach. He finished his career with Los Altos in the administrative office and retired in 1983.

Jan and Helyn moved from Los Altos to Folsom in 1990 to be closer to sons Mark and Paul and their families. In 2001, they moved to El Dorado Hills and following Helyn’s passing in October 2005, Jan moved to Cameron Park to be even closer to his sons and grandsons.

Jan and Helyn spent much of their retirement traveling throughout the country and abroad. As recently as July 2005, and in celebration of their 60th anniversary, they took a 7 day cruise to Alaska with the extended family. Jan and Helyn were also volunteers in grandsons Chris and Aaron’s schools several days each week.

Jan is survived by sons, Mark and Paul, daughters-in-law Laurie and Renee, grandsons Matt, Lance, Chris, and Aaron, and great granddaughter Helynn.

A memorial service was held at Journey Church, 450 Blue Ravine Road, Folsom, CA on May 9, 2006. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent to the family at 3160 El Tejon Road, Cameron Park, CA 95682.

CHARLES E MCINTOSH

Charles, 81 of Mtn. View, passed away 4/8/06 of Leukemia. Ed lived in Mtn. View for 39 years, and is survived by his (3) sons, Tom, Bruce & Craig and his (5) Grandchildren Lauren, Jenna, Russell, Brittany & Kristina. Ed was born in Ashland, KY, on 6/14/24 and worked for the Ford Motor Company in a variety of marketing/sales positions, until his retirement in 1986. A private service was held for the immediate family on 4/22 at “Alta Mesa Memorial Park” in Palo Alto, where he was put to rest with his wife Dorothy McIntosh who passed away on 5/21/05. Donations can be made in Ed’s name to the Bruns House Inpatient Facility in Alamo, CA

BLAINE W. PUTNAM 5/24/20 - 5/1/06

Blaine Putnam of Los Altos passed away Monday, May 1st while enjoying gardening (his beloved pastime). Born in Washington state, Blaine moved to California in the 1920’s, working as a lumberjack, arborist, and athlete. Competing for the United States at the 1939 World’s Fair at Treasure Island, San Francisco, his softball team won the World Championship with Blaine pitching the title game. An avid golfer and athlete, Blaine enjoyed all sports, especially for the “life lessons” that they taught.

Blaine joined the U.S. Merchant Marine during WWII, serving in a variety of capacities, eventually becoming a deck officer. Blaine served in the North Atlantic and Pacific Theatres, working for American President and Luchenbach Lines on both “Liberty” and “Victory” ships.

Stateside after the war, Blaine was introduced to his lovely wife Avis, and they shared 55 years together, An active retailer in Mtn. View for 35 years, Blaine was a member of the Palo Alto Elks Lodge, SIRS, and Mtn View Rotary Club; introducing the Interplast Program to the peninsula. A former president of the Navy League associated with Moffett Field Naval Air Station, Blaine was active in many social programs such as drug awareness, civic pride, and recognizing the contributions made by our military soldiers and their families.

Blaine is survived by his wife, Avis, and two daughters; Jill of Los Altos, and Sue of Sunnyvale, plus six grandchildren and lots of friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend Memorial Services @ 7p.m. on Thursday, May 11th at First Presbyterian Church of Mtn. View 1667 Miramonte Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Interplast Foundation can be made on behalf of the family.
