NASA scientist honored
Heinz Erzberger of Los Altos Hills was honored at the White House recently for his scientific achievements.
As a NASA employee for more than 40 years, Erzberger created the modern air-traffic management system, said to be more significant than the discovery of radar.
Kniss selected as health care champion
The Community Health Partnership has selected Fifth District Santa Clara County Supervisor Liz Kniss as “a champion of health care” and recipient of their first Legislator of the Year award. Kniss’ district includes Los Altos and Los Altos Hills.
The Community Health Partnership includes nine community health organizations. The mission of the county-based partnership is to expand access to health services for the medically underserved.
Artist shows photo work
Gallery 9 will feature the work of Los Altos photographer Charles Halleck through May 27. Halleck specializes in color images from his local and international travel.

Challenge group honors youth leaders
The Challenge Team, a community-based, non-profit partnership of students, school districts, police departments, community organizations, parent groups and health service groups, is honoring youth leaders Bob Adams and Oscar Garcia at a breakfast 7-8:30 a.m. Thursday at Michaels at Shoreline restaurant.
Adams and Garcia will be presented Champions of Youth awards for their service in the community.
The keynote speaker will be Richard Santana, former gang member turned Harvard graduate, talking on “Motivation, Change, Diversity, Education.”
Adams is being honored for his work with Partners For New Generations. Garcia of Mountain View started a group called Mesa de la Comidad.

Sally Ride schedules festival
Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, has announced a Sally Ride Science Festival will be held at NASA Research Park historic district at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field on May 21.
The festival is for girls in grades five through eight with parents and educators also welcome to attend.
This is one in a series of festivals organized by Sally Ride Science, a company dedicated to creating science experiences for girls that empower them, engage them and encourage their interests.
