The Board of Trustees of the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District has named Barry Groves as the district’s new superintendent effective July 1.
Groves is no stranger to the area; he was an assistant principal at Crittenden Middle School in Mountain View. Since 1992, he has been superintendent of the Cambrian School District in San Jose. Groves began his career in education as a high school teacher of English and history.
“We are anxious to have him on board,” said Julia Rosenberg, board president.
The board expects to approve Groves’ contract at its May 8 meeting.
Rosenberg said Groves has notified the Cambrian School District of his departure.
“This will be a busy time for Barry,” Rosenberg said. She added that as he wraps things up at the Cambrian School District, he will try to attend as many MV-LA functions and meetings as he can.
The board also accepted the official resignation of outgoing Superintendent Rich Fischer.
Fischer, who served the district for 10 years, announced his retirement last November at the end of the 2005-2006 school year. He is retiring to spend more time with his family.
