More than 100 dogs and their owners braved morning rain to attend Los Altos Hills’ third annual “Hoppin’ Hounds Easter Egg Hunt” April 15 at Westwind Barn and Byrne Preserve.
Many different breeds and ages of dogs attended the event, which raised more than $650 for Palo Alto Animal Services. The youngest dog was a 12-week-old Vizsla, the oldest was an 18-year-old mixed breed.
Five Paw Bakery of Los Altos sponsored the egg hunt, donating 1,500 fresh-baked pet treats in the shape of large Easter eggs. Volunteers spent the early part of Saturday morning hiding the treats in the pasture of Byrne Preserve. Owners then walked their leashed dogs through Byrne as the dogs sniffed out their treats.
Event director Tod McLemore said he was impressed with the turnout. “Los Altos Hills is a very dog-friendly community,” he said, “and over 120 dogs and their owners turned out for the event.”
