Filmmaker seeking World War II vets
Documentary filmmaker Larry Cappetto will be in Mountain View Monday through April 26 to interview local World War II veterans for his nationally recognized documentary series, “Lest They Be Forgotten.”
Cappetto, based in Arizona, has been working on the documentary for 3 1/2 years, recording stories from members of “America’s Greatest Generation,” as Tom Brokaw and others have termed them.
“World War II veterans are dying at a rate of 1,500 per day,” Cappetto said. “I’ve made it my mission to find and record these stories before it’s too late. … Our young people need to know firsthand the sacrifices that have gone before them to help secure the freedoms we all enjoy.”
Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, 96 W. El Camino Real in Mountain View, is sponsoring and hosting the interviews next week.
Cappetto is seeking World War II veterans who fought in the battles of Iwo Jima, Omaha and Utah beaches during D-Day, as well as Korean and Vietnam war veterans.
To date Cappetto said he has interviewed nearly 250 World War II veterans from all over the country and Europe, resulting in “three powerful, inspiring film documentaries. I have also begun interviewing Korea and Vietnam veterans for upcoming documentaries to be included in this series.”
Interested veterans may reach Cappetto by phoning (970) 254-9262 or by e-mailing larry@veteranshistory.org.
