Church addresses parenting questions

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto, 505 E. Charleston Road, is exploring “Parenting in a Liberal Religion,” a series of talks designed to support parents in their spiritual and everyday challenges, 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. most Sundays through June 11.

Concert benefits Ukraine congregation

Congregation Beth Am has scheduled its fourth annual Music for a Sunday Afternoon fund-raiser to benefit its sister congregation in Povolta, Ukraine, 2:30 p.m. April 23.

Pamela Rose, a singer from San Francisco’s music scene, will perform a collection of jazz and blues songs, accompanied by Ruth Davies and Danny Caron on jazz bass and guitar.

Cost is $18 pre-paid, $25 at the door.

Congregation Beth Am is located at 26790 Arastradero Road, Los Altos Hills.

UMW fund supports African women

The United Methodist Women’s group of Los Altos has established an African Student Education Fund. The fund resulted from the group’s support of two African students, Loice Nyauchi and Lydia Nabale, over the past two years. Both are scheduled to graduate this spring.

“We have established this ongoing African Student Education Fund to help other students like Loice and Lydia,” who intend to use their education in Africa, UMW member Janet Lull said. “Funds will be sent directly to the school, not to the student.”

Donations to this fund are tax deductible and can be sent to UMW/African Student Education Fund, Los Altos United Methodist Church, 655 Magdelena Ave., Los Altos 94024. For more information, e-mail janlull@msn.com.

LDS church to host Easter sing-along

The Los Altos Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) is hosting a free Easter sing-along 7-8 p.m. Sunday at the LDS Chapel, 190 Jordan Ave., Los Altos.

Vocalists and instrumentalists will introduce melodies members of the audience will be invited to sing. Participants include: Liz Neil, piano; Janet Brigham Rands, organ; Jenna Adams, conductor; William Burns, narrator; Mat Croft, French horn; Mandy Croft, oboe; Sarah Smith, flute; Debbie Tanne, vocals; and Valparaiso Singers Laura Moore and Cindy Hansen.

LAUMC offers April programs

Los Altos United Methodist Church continues its year-long emphasis on Whole Healt Body, Mind and Spirit with the following programs in April:

• Prayer 101 with Pastor Mark Bollwinkel, using the book “In God’s Presence,” 7-8:30 p.m. today and April 19.

• The Gift of You Workshop with Nancy Roslund. Discover your spiritual gifts and how to use them. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 29 (includes lunch). Meets in the Live Oak Room.

• SoulCollage Workshop with Lee Ann O’Neal. A creative art experience to assess and reflect on self, relationships and spirit, 9 a.m. to noon April 29. For more information, call 948-1083 or visit www.laumc-why.org.

British Day feted at St. Luke’s

St. Luke’s Chapel in the Hills has scheduled British Day, April 23, the feast of St. George. The Morning Prayer Service at 10 a.m. will use the official British Book of Common Prayer. The Holy Communion service at noon will use the 1549 Book of Common Prayer. Worshipers at both services will sing traditional British hymns. A potluck featuring British food is planned following the services.
