Iris and Mimi Loh don clown faces at the Big Apple Circus to benefit Dress For Success. The Loh family of Los Altos participated in a reality program based on charitable giving.

The Loh family of Los Altos puts its fate in consumer and JetBlue passengers’ hands this month as Sam, Mimi, Iris and Josiah duke it out for a year’s worth of travel on JetBlue.

The Lohs compete against the Brock family of Healdsburg in an American Express and JetBlue Airways-created reality program, “Share the Love,” which captures their experiences as they participated in a two-day cross-country competition.

The winning family will be determined by viewers, who can watch the program on all JetBlue flights or online at www.jetbluecard.com. Consumers can vote online today through April 30 for their favorite family based on the families’ innovation, charity and teamwork.

Throughout the competition, the families completed tasks to earn award dollars for flights back home.

The tasks challenged the families to use their creativity and teamwork to benefit New York and Los Angeles charities, such as the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana, the firefighters memorial in Hollywood, Dress for Success and the Big Apple Circus.

The winning “Share the Love” family will be awarded a year’s worth of travel on JetBlue. The second-place family will receive a prize of 40,000 award dollars, equivalent to round-trip travel for two on JetBlue.

“The Los Altos community will be excited to hear that they can influence the final decision in this reality program,” said Share the Love spokesperson Alisa Davis.

The Lohs include Sam, 48, a financial analyst; Mimi, 46, a mortgage broker; Iris, 16, a junior in high school; and Josiah, 13, in the eighth grade.

The Lohs said they embrace traditional family bonding and strong communication skills as their strengths.

“We are very close and the key is communication,” said Sam Loh. “We have good team spirit and work well under pressure. With our spirit and communication we will set responsibilities and succeed together.”

The Share the Love competition flew the Brock and Loh families to Los Angeles on Nov. 12, where they competed in various charitable challenges over the course of 48 hours, that included an old fashioned scavenger hunt at Hollywood & Highland Center to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana. The families then raced to the Burbank airport for the next challenge and red-eye flight to New York City.

With little sleep and no breaks, upon landing in New York City, they were whisked off to Bloomingdale’s for their next challenge to benefit “Dress for Success” before heading to the Big Apple Circus.

At the circus they participated in clown training, made a donation to “Circus for All,” a community service program of the Big Apple Circus, and concluded the competition with a grand finale performance at the Big Apple Circus.

Without spending any of the money on themselves each family worked to earn enough Award Dollars on their JetBlue Card to get home.

The families’ experiences were filmed to create the reality TV program.
