LA travel agent wins Australian award

Los Altos travel agent Maureen Jones of All Horizons Travel received an Opal Award, recognizing her skill in selling vacations to Australia.

The annual Opal Award is the highest honor bestowed by Tourism Australia. Jones has won a record nine Opals, this year for Best Consumer Lecture. She gives nearly 60 public lectures a year and has visited Australia more than 50 times.

Jones is on the Tourism Australia Strategic Planning Committee and the Queensland and Great Barrier Reef Advisory Board and is a Premier Aussie Specialist, one of 100 in the United States. She is a travel columnist for the Town Crier. All Horizons Travel is located at 160 Main St. in downtown Los Altos.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
