AILEEN SULLIVAN PAIONI

Aileen Sullivan Paioni passed away peacefully on Friday November 18th from a short illness at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, CA. She was comforted in her last moments by her husband of 57 years, A. T. “Mike” Paioni and family friends Judy and Megan Gallagher, wife and daughter of Michael Gallagher and Mark Brosche. She lived a life of love and devotion to home and friends. She epitomized the meaning of “Lovely gentle woman” with her smile and blue eyes. She had great devotion to the “Blessed Mother”. She was the daughter of the late John L. Sullivan and Mary Ann Cullen.

Proceeding her in death were brothers, Tom, Jack, Bill and Fr. Sullivan and her dear sister Rosemary Sullivan. Also survived by brother-in-law Charles Paioni and family. There are eight surviving nieces and nephews who thought the world of “Aunt Aileen”.

Aileen was particularly delighted with her husband Mike’s singing voice and could guide him with a nod, a gesture, a movement of the eyes if he went astray during a performance. She was the “Maestro” and Mike knew it.

Aileen served as a lifetime member in the Villa Siena Retirement Home Auxiliary as well as a benefactor of Plan USA where she sponsored many foster children. Over many years she sponsored scholarships for many students at USF, Gonzaga University and Immaculate Conception Academy in San Francisco. She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception Academy.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 9:30 A.M. Monday December 19th in the Villa Siena Chapel at 1855 Miramonte Ave., Mountain View. A Reception will follow. A private burial service has been held.

JEAN T. HAMILTON

Peacefully passed away on December 5, 2005 at the age of 75. Jean was born in Palo Alto on November 12, 1930. She attended Lytton Elementary, Jordan Junior High and Palo Alto High School. After graduating from San Jose State, Jean became an English teacher at Ravenswood High School. She later received her Master’s degree from San Jose State and went on to enjoy a long and distinguished career as Vice-Principal at the following local High Schools: Ravenswood, San Carlos and Sequoia. A resident of Los Altos for thirty-four years, Jean loved gardening, collecting cookbooks and her little dog “Birdy”.

Jean adored her family and they loved her! She is survived by daughters Mary, “Missy” Northrup and Becky Beacom along with their husbands Ralph Northrup and James Beacom and her four Grandchildren: Sarah Northrup, Lesley Northrup, Jeanne Beacom and Jack Beacom.

Funeral services were held on December 9, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. after a 10:00 A.M. visitation at Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, 96 El Camino Real West, Mtn.View. Interment followed at Alta Mesa Memorial Park, 695 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto.

JEAN MARIE CARROLL

At rest, Saturday, December 3, 2005 in Burlingame, CA.

Jean is survived by her sisters Pat Carroll and Marjorie Huddleston. She was predeceased by her brother Tom Carroll. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and many friends.

Her memberships included I.C.F. of Los Altos, Y.L.I.Dolores #7, S.F. and The National Rose Society. A native of San Francisco, a longtine resident of Burlingame. Age 68 yrs.

A memorial mass was held on Friday, December 9, 2005 at 9:30 A.M. at St. Simons Church, 1860 Grant Road, Los Altos. Interment followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Los Altos. Contributions preferred to the Humane Society.

Arrangements were made by Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, Mtn. View, CA.

VIRGINIA ELIZABETH SCHRINER

Born on December 28, 1916 in Cleveland, OH to Francis and Nellie Warren, Ginny passed away peacefully on Monday, December 5 in Mtn. View. A resident of Los Altos for 48 years, Ginny was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, the love of her life, George, in 1985, loving daughter Katherine Englund in 2000, grandson Eric and granddaughter Sonja.

Ginny’s true legacy is the love and devotion she had for her family. She will be missed by her surviving sons Tom and his wife Martha, George “Chris” and his wife Sarah, daughters Debbie Shoffner and her husband Michael, Kimberly Chien and her husband Al, her 11 beloved grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Ginny also leaves behind her adoring sisters, Mary Regina and Francis Diane.

A Rosary Service was held on Thursday, December 8 at Spangler Mortuary, 399 S. San Antonio Road, Los Altos. A funeral mass was celebrated on Friday, December 9 at St. William Catholic Church, 611 S. El Monte Avenue, Los Altos. Ginny was laid to rest next to her best friend, George at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Drive, Los Altos.

MARY MAY WOOD

On December 5, 2005, Mary May Wood passed away gracefully and in peace surrounded by her loving children and husband.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years Frederick Bartles Wood, loving children Susan Hollins (her husband Marvin), Craig Wood and Julie Wood, devoted grandsons Christopher and Jordan Wood, as well as many other loving family and friends.

Mary’s work as an Art Therapist as well as her inherent kindness and gentleness touched the lives of all who were blessed to have known her. Her spirit and joy will live on in us all.

Mary was laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos, CA on December 9, 2005. A chaplain from the Veteran’s Hospital conducted the services.

LEONARDO S. J. MARTIN

Leonardo S. J. Martin, MD, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at his home in Los Altos. Born Nov. 26, 1925 to Nemesio and Felicidad (San Juan) Martin in Makati, the Philippines. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Helen Mary Dougherty and his children: Len, John (Janine), David, Mark, Regina Dawson (Michael) and Daniel. Survived also by his brother Jaime; Miriam, Laarni and other nieces and nephews and four adoring grandchildren: Grace, Joey, Nate and Julie.

A respected and admired physician and surgeon at the Sunnyvale Medical Clinic and El Camino Hospital from 1965 to 1993, Leonardo attended the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine, Class of 1952. Upon coming to America he trained at Philadelphia General and at Massachusetts General Hospital where he specialized in Urology. He received the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines Award for medicine in 1960, developed surgical techniques practiced today and served on the California State Medical Board from 1987 to 2005. His personal achievements throughout his career were overshadowed by his dedication to each patient, his generosity and a gentle approach to all. He participated in numerous medical missions to the Philippines, in areas of poverty and despair.

A humble man of courage and great faith, he put others before himself, was always kindhearted and congenial. He did what God asked of him, was an exceptional husband, father, brother and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed painting, piano, working with stained glass, was a terrific tennis player and not a bad golfer. His greatest pride was his family and with all of us present he was able to celebrate and enjoy his 80th birthday. We will remember you always with love and gratitude. Rest in peace.

A Funeral Mass was held on Monday, Dec. 12 at St. Simon Catholic Church, 1860 Grant Rd., Los Altos. Visitations were on Sunday, Dec. 11 at the Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, 96 El Camino Real W., in Mtn. View. Private interment was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Los Altos.
