Epstein |
Los Altos Troop 37 will recognize Senior Scout, Jordan David Epstein, at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Los Altos Youth Center. Only 2 percent of scouts nationwide reach the rank of Eagle.
Epstein, a Los Altos Hills resident, is a senior at Crystal Springs Upland School in Hillsborough.
He attended Loyola Elementary and Blach Middle schools in Los Altos.
Epstein has been active in scouting for 12 years, starting in Los Altos Cub Scout Den 2 Pack 33 in 1993 and joining Troop 37 in 1999.
He attended the National Jamboree in Virginia (2001), Northern Tier Wilderness Canoeing Trip in Canada (2004) and worked on the Staff of Camp Oljato at Huntington Lake for two summers (2002, 2003). He was chosen Scout of the Year in 2003 and received the Herman Peters Award (Troop 37’s highest award) in 2004.
As a scout in Troop 37, Epstein has spent hundreds of hours on community service activities and has participated in many camping, canoeing and backpacking trips (including two 50 milers).
For his Eagle Scout service project, Epstein designed, built and set in concrete three oversized redwood benches for Springer Elementary School in the Los Altos School District. Twenty-nine scouts from Troop 37 helped to complete this project.
Outside of scouting, Epstein is a three-sport varsity athlete, an active member of his school’s theater group, an avid trombone player in the jazz band and orchestra, captain of his school’s math team and a National Merit commended scholar.
Epstein is the son of Allan and Suzanne (Lettis) Epstein.
Troop 37 was founded in 1917 and is the largest and oldest continually active Boy Scout Troop in the Pacific Skyline Council, Stanford District.
