Kehillah dedicates new facility
The public is invited to celebrate as Kehillah Jewish High School dedicates its new home, which will serve the entire community. The dedication program, scheduled for 1-3 p.m. Sunday, includes light refreshments, a tour of the school and a keynote address, “What Makes a Healthy High School Environment,” by Denise Clark Pope, Ph.D.
Pope is a lecturer in the Stanford University School of Education, the director of Stanford’s Stressed-Out Students project and an advocate of reducing the pressure on children to succeed. She focuses on how to encourage students to engage in academic learning and ultimately succeed in school. The American School Board Journal named her book, “Doing School,” a Notable Book in Education.
Kehillah, now in its fourth year, is a coeducational college preparatory and independent high school of nearly 100 students. In its first year, Kehillah achieved candidacy status from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and expects full accreditation in 2007.
The new campus houses 26 classrooms, physics, chemistry and biology labs, and music and art facilities. Kehillah interweaves the spiritual and ethical teachings of Judaism with traditional academic disciplines.
The school is located at 3900 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. For more information, call 213-9600 or visit www.kehillah.org.
