Radar speed signs slated for Los Altos

The Los Altos City Council approved the installation of two radar speed limit signs at Fremont and Miramonte avenues last month. A similar radar sign was recently installed by the city of Mountain View on Springer Road near Rosita Avenue.

The traffic commission chose those locations to remind motorists of lower speed limits as they cross into Los Altos.

The Fremont sign will be located between Fallen Leaf Lane and Truman Avenue, the Miramonte sign between Covington Road and Berry Avenue. The Fremont Avenue location was No. 1 among Los Altos streets with the worst traffic collision history. There were eight reported incidents between 2002 and 2004. Grant Road near Ranchita Drive ranked second with four reported incidents.

LAH plans celebration for 50th birthday

Los Altos Hills volunteers are moving forward with designing a historical display and video to celebrate the town’s upcoming 50th anniversary.

The city council has allocated $26,800 for the exhibit, which will be installed in the town hall.

The budget includes a $5,000 subsidy for an anniversary dinner party scheduled for Jan. 27 at the Los Altos Country Club.

The 10-panel historical display, a project budgeted at $18,750, is planned for debut at the dinner. The council has set aside a $2,000 contingency fund for cost overruns.

Other items approved by the council were a town stationery anniversary logo and town Web site enhancements.
