Volunteers needed by service agency

The Community Services Agency needs volunteers to work one to two hours a week to help provide food to local low-income families and the homeless. Volunteer work would include the pickup and delivery of donated food from local markets to the agency’s food and nutrition center. Weekday morning positions are available.

Local restaurants supporting Red Cross

Armadillo Willy’s nine Bay Area locations have designated next Tuesday to donate 100 percent of their profits and all proceeds of specially marked bottles of Armadillo Willy’s BBQ sauce to the American Red Cross local chapters and hurricane relief funds.

Armadillo Willy’s are located at 2624 Homestead Road, Santa Clara; 161 E. El Camino Real, Sunnyvale; 2071 Camden Ave., San Jose; 4480 Tassajara Road, Dublin; 10100 S. El Camino Hospital Auxiliary scholarships

El Camino Hospital Auxiliary and Foundation is offering scholarships to students pursuing careers in professional health fields.

Graduating high school seniors and full-time college students enrolled in an accredited California college or university may apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and permanent residents in the El Camino Hospital District, which includes the cities of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, Sunnyvale and Cupertino.

Awards are granted on the basis of financial need, scholastic achievement, goals and character. The Scholarship Committee evaluates, interviews and selects recipients, and determines the amount of each award.

Completed applications must be received in the Auxiliary office no later than Jan. 27.

Applications are available at local high schools, college financial aid offices, libraries and the El Camino Hospital Auxiliary office. Applications are available online at www.elcaminohospital.org (click Volunteer Opportunities).

Local agency collects Toys for Tots

All Horizons Travel in downtown Los Altos is serving as local collection headquarters for Toys for Tots, a national toy-collecting drive for the underprivileged spearheaded by the U.S. Marine Corps, according to Col. Roy Jones of All Horizons Travel.

All Horizons Travel is located at 160 Main St., and you can drop off unwrapped toys through Dec. l9.

Volunteers needed at history museum

The Los Altos History Museum needs volunteers to help as docents, to work in the museum store and to support public education and educational programs.

Kiwanis tree lot under way

The 19th annual Los Altos Kiwanis Club Christmas tree lot is open. The tree lot, which opened on Nov. 26, is the largest fundraiser for the service club. All proceeds go to fund the club’s community projects, like the Kiwanis Scholarship Fund, and Special Games, as well as grants made to many local organizations. The tree lot also helps fund the annual Kiwanis Pet Parade in May.

The Kiwanis Tree Lot is located at the Albertson’s Supermarket on Grant Road at Arboretum in South Los Altos. The lot is open 3-8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Delivery and set up for Christmas trees is available. The tree lot also features wreaths, garland, and beautiful seasonal centerpieces.
