Sungwha Seo and Kenneth Smith

Sungwha Seo and Kenneth Smith were married Sept. 10 at the groom’s home in Aloha, Ore. Their reception was held at the Reserve Golf Club.

The bride is the daughter of Byoung-Ho Seo and Youn-Sun Heo of Busan, South Korea. She graduated from Dong-A University with a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering and resource. She is employed as an engineer at Intel Corporation.

The groom is the son of Fred and Kate Smith of Los Altos Hills. He graduated from Mountain View High School and received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Cal Poly. He is employed as an engineer at Intel Corporation in Hillsboro, Ore.

The couple honeymooned in the Virgin Islands.

Caroline Smith and Larry Haug

Caroline Smith and Larry Haug were married Aug. 27 in Eureka. Their reception was held at the Wharfinger Building.

The bride is the daughter of Fred and Kate Smith of Los Altos Hills. She graduated from MidPeninsula High School and received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Humboldt State University. She is employed at the Department of Health and Human Services, Humboldt County, and teaches at the College of the Redwoods.

The groom is the son of Nancy Haug of Salem, Ore. He is the owner of LDH Construction Company.

The couple honeymooned on the Big Island of Hawaii and plan to live in McKinleyville.

Monie Wheatcroft and Steve TenBroeck

Monie Wheatcroft and Steve TenBroeck were married Oct. 15 at the Foothills Congregational Church in Los Altos. Their reception was held at Spago in Palo Alto.

The bride is the daughter of Gary and Anne Wheatcroft of Pasadena.

She is a graduate of Westridge School in Pasadena and UC Santa Barbara. She is a marketing executive at Intel Corporation in Santa Clara.

The groom is the son of Howard and Agnes TenBroeck, now deceased, of Palo Alto.

He is a fourth-generation Palo Alto native who attended Cubberley High School, Foothill College and California State University at Hayward.

He is employed as a residential realtor at Alain Pinel Realtors in Los Altos.

The matron of honor was the bride’s sister, Jane Wiser of Orinda, and the best man was Jeff Stricker of Los Altos, the groom’s business partner.

The couple spent their honeymoon in Hawaii and reside in Palo Alto.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
