The Bus Barn Stage Company of Los Altos received a $5,000 Community Investment Grant from Community Foundation Silicon Valley to help to support this intimate, professional quality theater.
Bus Barn Stage Company reaches thousands annually in its 99-seat theater. The organization offers six productions a year by local artists, including a summer festival with one-person productions and an annual benefit show.
The grant to Bus Barn is one of 16 awarded to organizations throughout Silicon Valley. The grants are the first awarded under the Community Foundation’s recently revised grant-making strategy.
Previously, Community Foundation grants supported specific programs operated by non-profits. Now Community Investment Grants provide unrestricted grants.
The new strategy is the result of research into the needs of the local non-profit sector, in which organizations surveyed said they need more flexible funding to support general operations in addition to costs related to the programs they offer.
“The Community Foundation’s goal is to strengthen non-profits and create a healthy, vibrant non-profit sector in Silicon Valley,” said Peter Hero, president of the Community Foundation.
