Image from article Spooky time planned for downtown Halloween event
Two girls dressed in their Halloween costumes play with a balloon creation in downtown Los Altos. The annual Spooktacular is set for Oct. 31.

The Los Altos Village Association will host its annual Halloween Spooktacular 1-3 p.m. Oct. 31 on Second Street in downtown Los Altos. The day will include trick-or-treating, a petting zoo, a performance by the Egan Intermediate School’s Music Department and other fun activities.

The event will feature trick or treating in downtown stores from noon to 3:30 p.m. Look for a smiling pumpkin poster in the windows of participating merchants.

De Martini Orchards will set a bountiful of harvest-scene backdrop so participants can record memories of their children in their costumes. Picture taking will be from 1-3 p.m. There will be a small fee per picture.

Redwood Grove will bring some of its crawly, furry friends for the petting zoo. FasTracKids and KidsArt will provide Halloween fun.

Los Altos High School’s Athletic Booster Club will sell pumpkins to benefit their athletic program. Other attractions include face painting, a balloon artist and volunteers dressed as ghosts, goblins and witches.

The city of Los Altos’ Parks, Arts and Recreation Department cosponsors downtown window painting by local students.

The Los Altos Village Association sponsors the Halloween Spooktacular.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

When members of the Los Altos Village Association first created the summer movie nights, they anticipated an event that would attract more residents downtown as a way to promote business.

What they didn’t anticipate was an influx of middle schoolers, or that parents would use the weekly Friday night affair as an opportunity to drop off their children and have someone else (in this case, the Village Association) effectively watch over them.
