Loyola learns about Indian festival of lights
Loyola Elementary School students have scheduled a presentation on the Indian festival of lights, Diwali, and the epic “Ramayana” noon to 12:45 p.m. Oct. 27 in the school’s multipurpose room.
The program will begin with a short play and narrative, followed by an Indian fashion show and performances of three traditional festival dances.
Bangles, bindis and painted Indian lamps will be distributed as the event ends. Indian clothes, artwork, floral patterns and other decorations for Diwali will be on display. Students are invited to take their lunch to the multi and enjoy the show.

Mountain View Academy holds open house today
Mountain View Academy, a Christian-centered college preparatory school, invites parents and families to its annual open house 5:30-7 p.m. today.
Whether their children are in high school now, or will be in the next few years, the school staff invites parents to learn about the education the school has provided since 1922. Parents and prospective students can meet the new principal and visit classrooms to talk with teachers.
Music will be performed and refreshments served.

Personal safety for young children
Los Altos Parent Preschool has scheduled a KidPower seminar on personal safety for children from infancy to age 5 for 7-9:30 p.m. Thursday in the Los Altos High School Eagle Theater, 201 Almond Ave.
Parents, guardians, teachers and other school personnel are encouraged to attend.
Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 at the door.

Santa Rita brews ‘Witches’ Delight’
Ghoulish goblins and wacky witches are planning to attend Santa Rita Elementary School PTA’s 45th annual “Witches’ Delight” Halloween carnival, scheduled for 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 29 at the school, 700 Los Altos Ave.
The Magic Makers will entertain. Children can “pay to play” unlimited carnival games. Prices are $5 for preschoolers, $10 for kindergartners and above, and $25 for families of three or more. The admission fee includes a cake walk, cookie decorating and a costume contest. Don’t miss the Haunted House, built and hosted by the sixth grade.
Lunch items and treats such as cotton candy, sno-cones and home-baked goods will be sold.
All children must be accompanied by a mummy or a daddy.
