Author of baseball book pitches on Main Street

Charlie Knell, co-author with Vince Scarich of “Celebrating Joy … the Rebirth of Baseball,” reviewed in the Town Crier Sept. 7, will sign copies of the book 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at Main Street Cafe & Books, 134 Main St.

Kepler’s reopens to crowds

Kepler’s Books, the Menlo Park literary landmark threatened with extinction, reopened Oct. 8 and was jammed with shoppers.

Clark Kepler announced a new membership program with benefits including discounts, advance notice of events and special backgrounders and reviews.

Volunteers are working on a Kepler’s Benefit Week, Nov. 1-6.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
