In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Los Altos-area businesses, organizations and residents have come together to aid the devastated communities in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Here are ways to lend your support at the local level:
Los Altos Community Foundation
Town Crier Hurricane Relief Fund
These organizations are currently providing emergency relief throughout the 200-mile stricken area, with long-range plans for home rebuilding and assistance. Donors can designate other relief agencies to receive all or a portion of their contribution.
The fund will be channeled through fiscal agent Community Foundation Silicon Valley, which provides tax-deduction receipts for donors. Donors’ names will be listed in a thank-you ad in the paper in the near future. Make checks payable to the Town Crier Hurricane Relief Fund and deliver them in person or by mail to the Town Crier, 138 Main St., Los Altos 94022. To make credit-card contributions, call Leverne Cornelius, 948-9000, ext. 300.
Palo Alto Area Red Cross
Assistance League of Los Altos
The El Camino Hospital Foundation has established the El Camino Hospital Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund to provide a maximum of $100,000 in a dollar-for-dollar match for all employee gifts through Dec. 31.
