Rushdie, Afghan author events at Books Inc.

Nelofer Pazira, author of “A Bed of Red Flowers,” a portrait of the author’s family and life under occupation in Afghanistan, is scheduled to appear at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Books Inc.

Salman Rushdie, the celebrated author of “The Satanic Verses” and “The Moor’s Last Sigh,” is scheduled to discuss his new book, “Shalimar the Clown,” 7:30 p.m. Monday at the bookstore.

Books Inc. is located at 301 Castro St., Mountain View.

Los Altos book group reads ‘Samurai’s Garden’

The Los Altos Library book discussion group meets 7:30-9 p.m. on scheduled Wednesdays in the small conference room. Everyone is welcome to attend. On Oct. 19, the group will discuss “The Samurai’s Garden” by Gail Tsukiyama, the story of a young Chinese man who goes to Japan just before WWII to recover from tuberculosis..
