De Anza College President Brian Murphy will appear on “A Better Part,” a video show produced by and for senior citizens, to show a sneak peak of De Anza’s new energy efficient “green buildings” opening this fall at the Cupertino college.
The show will run 4:30 p.m. Oct. 3 on cablecast by KMVT Mountain View (Channel 15), and Oct. 4, and 7 p.m. Oct. 7 on Los Altos Comcast 26 and Cupertino Comcast 15.
The Student and Community Services Building and the Kirsch Center for Environmental Studies, named for Los Altos Hills resident and philanthropist Steve Kirsch, are cost-effective examples of maximum energy efficiency and use of recycled products and non-toxic materials.
De Anza will host open houses for each building. The public is invited.
Kirsch Center’s open house is scheduled for Oct. 14, and the Student and Community Services Building’s open house is Oct. 26.
Suzanne Peck of Los Altos and Jean Struthers of Los Altos Hills have been invited to participate in the Hidden Villa “Plein Air Paint Out” scheduled Oct. 1 at Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills.
Twenty-four local artists will spend the day landscape painting and the public is encouraged to explore Hidden Villa and watch original works of art being created.
Jurying will begin at 4 p.m. Cash prizes and gift certificates will be awarded to the 12 painters whose works will be selected for auction at Hidden Villa next spring.
Hidden Villa is a 1,600-acre wilderness preserve in Los Altos Hills which serves 50,000 visitors annually with environmental education, summer camp and community programs for youngsters and families. The preserve is open to the public every day but Mondays for farm tours or casual picnicking and hiking.
This is the first Plein Air Paint Out hosted by Hidden Villa. Proceeds from the spring auction will seed more art events on the preserve.
