American Legion Post 558 recently held a recognition dinner for this year’s local participants in Boys’ and Girls’ State, a summertime educational program that emphasizes participation in a model state. Students take on roles as legislators and newspaper editors, mirroring the operations of state government. “By teaching youth to understand and appreciate the basic principles involved in the successful management of a democratic society, America can remain strong and ensure our freedom for future generations,” said American Legion member Lew Miller.
