Annual event raises money for community projects

More than 180 players and dinner guests participated in this year’s Golf Tournament of the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors Charitable Foundation at the Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club.

With warm sunshine and a light breeze, golfing members of Silicon Valley’s real estate trade association and their leadership (including President Willi Krauss and President-elect John Tripp) contributed to the good cause at the organization’s successful signature event on the private golf course.

Those who didn’t play but joined the party for dinner and a live auction caught up fast. They enjoyed an evening of fun and fellowship with colleagues and competed in a hot bidding contest, orchestrated by SILVAR board director Mark Burns.

The result, according to foundation chairman Dennis Young was “one of the best annual golf tournaments we’ve ever had.” The event generated money that will be distributed to community projects and organizations on the Midpeninsula and in Silicon Valley.

Young’s co-chairman on the Golf Tournament committee, Jimmy Kang, added “a big ‘thank you’ to all the SILVAR members who supported the cause as sponsors of this year’s tournament.

Two dozen affiliate members and real estate companies sponsored the charitable event.

The annual tournament is the foundation’s sole fund-raiser.

In 2004, the foundation donated more than $92,000 to local projects and community organizations on the Peninsula.

“With everybody’s being so busy, it’s great to see so many of our members and guests

taking time out to enjoy

companionship and make a difference in our community by supporting a good cause,” said Krauss.

“The real big winners of this event are the foundation beneficiaries.”

This year’s golf committee members included Erika Schuman (First American Title), Jan R. Hannan (Financial Title Company), Kathy Yazalina (First American Title), Margo Jenks (Homeguard Inc.), Mickey Shaevitz (Coldwell Banker), Rick Nielsen (Washington Mutual) and Kelly Dadsetan (SILVAR).
