Actor Alan Alda to give reading at Books Inc.

Alan Alda, the Emmy Award-winning and Oscar-nominated actor, screenwriter and director, will read from and sign copies of his memoir, “Never Have Your Dog Stuffed, and Other Things I’ve Learned,” 5 p.m. Sept. 25 at Books Inc., 301 Castro St., Mountain View.

MacArthur Fellow to speak at LA library

Peter H. Gleick, co-founder and president of the Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment and Security, is scheduled 7 p.m. Sept. 28 to give a talk “Conflict or Cooperation: What Does the Future Portend?” at the Los Altos main library.

Gleick, a MacArthur Fellow in 2003 and internationally recognized water expert, will speak about the history of water-related conflicts, review recent experiences and trends, and speculate about what’s in store for the future.

The talk will be held in the Los Altos Public Library Program Room.
