Chefs Who Care at Cascal

The next Chefs Who Care dinners are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at Cascal restaurant, located at California Avenue and Castro Street, Mountain View.

Seatings are at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Half the proceeds benefit the Community Services Agency, which serves needy residents in Mountain View, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills.

Entrees are chicken marbella and salmon andalucia. Cost is $22 for adults. For credit card reservations, call 961-3584. For more information about Chefs Who Care, call 969-4399.

Rancho’s ‘Rock Back the Clock’

Rancho Shopping Center merchants have scheduled a “Rock Back the Clock” dance. This year’s event is slated for 6-10 p.m. Friday at the shopping center, corner of Springer Road and Foothill Expressway, Los Altos.

Music will be provided by disc jockey Rens Borsma.

Admission is $5. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Proceeds from the event benefit the Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade held in November.

Westwind’s ‘Hoedown’ Saturday

Historic Westwind Barn’s 28th annual fund-raiser “Hoedown” is scheduled for 5-10 p.m. Saturday at the barn, 27210 Altamont Road, Los Altos Hills.

Known for its equestrian demonstrations and western barbecue, this year’s hoedown will feature performances by parrots, macaws and cockatoos. The event also will feature western music and line dancing.

A silent auction, which features local merchant donations, will again be conducted. Proceeds from tickets and the silent auction help to fund the Westwind Community Barn and the Westwind 4H Riding Institute which teaches children with disabilities to ride.

Equestrian performances, free to the public, are scheduled for 5 p.m. and include carriage driving, side-saddle jumping, vaulting, pony club, and western reining, with buffet dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The “Happy Birds” performing parrots show begins at 6:15 p.m.

Dinner tickets are $35 adults, $25 children 6-12, $5 children under 6. For tickets and more information, call 941-6113.

Federated club holds first meeting

The Federated Woman’s Club of Los Altos has scheduled its first meeting of the season at 11 a.m. today at Michael’s at Shoreline.

After lunch at noon, the meeting program beginning at 1 p.m. will feature a violin/piano duet performed by Tibor Horvath and Yelena Savchenko.

‘Wild Cat Adventure’ set for Sept. 25

A “Wild Cat Adventure” presentation, featuring five live wild cats from Leopards, Etc. is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sept. 25 at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.

Attendees may view a cougar, African leopard, cheetah, king cheetah, snow leopard, ocelot, Siberian lynx, Canada lynx, serval or caracal.

Each cat is shown on the stage as information about its behavior, habitat and survival issues is shared with the audience. The event, presented by Rob and Barbara Dicely, offers an opportunity to learn what can be done to help save these animals from extinction.

The event will be held in Room 5015 on campus, with parking in lot No. 6. Admission is $10, $5 for children under 12. For more information, or to reserve tickets, call (707) 874-3176 or e-mail leopards@leopardsetc.com.
