Federated club holds first meeting

The Federated Woman’s Club of Los Altos has scheduled it’s first meeting of the season at 11 a.m. Sept. 7 at Michael’s at Shoreline.

After lunch at noon, the program for the meeting beginning at 1 p.m. will feature a violin/piano duet performed by Tibor Horvath and Yelena Savchenko.

Rancho’s ‘Rock Back the Clock’

Rancho Shopping Center merchants have again scheduled a “Rock Back the Clock” dance. This year’s event is slated for 6-10 p.m., Sept. 9, at the shopping center, corner Springer Road and Foothill Expressway, Los Altos.

Music will be provided by disc jockey Rens Borsma.

Admission is $5. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Proceeds from the event benefit the Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade, held in November.

Looking for LEADers

The Los Altos Community Foundation is accepting applications for the 2005-2006 Leadership Education ADvancement series.

LEAD is a community involvement education course aimed at Los Altos-Los Altos Hills area residents interested in meeting current leaders, learning about the programs that support today’s community and how to become involved.

Since 1996, more than 150 people have completed the program.

Meetings are scheduled 7-9 p.m., the last Monday of the month Sept. 26 through May (except December). Each session is held in a community location related to the topic.

Marge Bruno and Ginny Lear, volunteers from the foundation board, present the eight-session course. Subjects include local government, education, business, the library, history museum, social services and health, recreation, youth activities, the arts and community service organizations. Volunteer opportunities are highlighted.

There is a one-time fee of $75. Class size is limited to 25. For more information or to register, visit lacf@losaltoscf.org.

International festival of food Sept. 10-11

The Antiochian Orthodox Church of the Redeemer has scheduled its annual International Festival of Foods, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 10 and noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 11 at the church, 380 Magdalena Ave., Los Altos Hills.

The annual event features an assortment of Mediterranean cuisine, including shaved lamb and beef in pita bread, falafef sandwiches, tabbouleh salad and homemade baklava.

The event also includes entertainment, including cultural dance troops, and games and crafts for children.

Vendors will be selling handmade crafts in a “crafters alley” and participants can enter in a raffle for a 2005 C230 Mercedes-Benz.

Proceeds will go toward funding construction of the new church sanctuary.
