As the Million Solar Roofs Bill heads into its last votes in the Assembly, Environment California activists have launched a series of “Honk for Solar” rallies in the Bay Area in support of the nation’s largest solar power bill, SB 1.

A rally is planned for the Los Altos Farmers’ Market 2-4 p.m. today at the corner of Main and First streets in the downtown.

The bill, sponsored by the bipartisan team of state Senators Kevin Murray, a Democrat, and John Campbell, a Republican, and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was passed by the Senate by a vote of 30 to five. The Assembly has less than one month to pass the bill.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
