The Mountain View Chamber of Commerce swore in Rich Fischer, superintendent of the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District, as chairman during its 2005-2006 board of directors meeting.
More than 100 people attended the chamber’s annual membership mixer on July 13 to celebrate the reorganization of the board.
“Chamber members are achievement-oriented entrepreneurs who realize that a vital community goes hand in hand with a thriving business culture,” Fischer said. “I encourage all of us to work together to shine light on the best of Mountain View and to devote ourselves to continuously improving our community.”
As chairman, Fischer will be responsible for ensuring that the chamber of commerce and its members take the lead in rebuilding Mountain View’s economy.
Fischer has said that he believes business leaders, government officials and community stakeholders can achieve success for the community at large by working together.
“Our board represents our diverse membership - reflecting all sizes and industries,” said Chamber President and CEO Carol Olson. “In order to meet the various needs of Mountain View businesses, we must understand them first. This is where our board plays a critical role.”
Mike O’Farrell of America Online, which sponsored the mixer, was sworn in as chairman-elect for 2005-2006.
“We have some challenges given the current economy,” he said, “and this Board is focused on creating success for our members.”
