The Foothill-De Anza Community College District plans to unveil two solar power systems and highlight energy efficiency improvements at the colleges at 10 a.m. today.
The event is to take place under the solar panels on the top level of Stelling Parking Garage on the De Anza campus, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino.
Executives from Chevron Energy Solutions will join Foothill-De Anza leadership to show off an innovative solar-paneled parking shade structure at De Anza that follows the sun’s path to maximize power output. Estimates are that the solar power installation, along with a second photovoltaic structure at Foothill, new high-efficiency cogeneration facilities and previous infrastructure improvements at both campuses, will allow the district to cut electricity costs nearly in half.
The new system is the result of a partnership between Foothill-De Anza and Chevron Energy Solutions, undertaken by the district as part of its overall effort to reduce energy costs while benefiting the environment.
