Harry Potter movie night
The Los Altos Village Association is showing “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” Friday on Main Street, sponsored by Shelly Potvin of Coldwell Banker. The scheduling of the movie coincides with release of the latest Harry Potter book, “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince,” at the stroke of midnight. Linden Tree Children’s Records and Books is preparing for the momentous event by opening its doors at 170 State St., at 11 p.m. “Half Blood Prince” officially goes on sale 12:01 a.m., Saturday.
Movie night events begin at 6:30 p.m. and movies usually start at dusk. However, the Potter movie will not start until 9:30 p.m., intended to time the end of the movie with the beginning of new Potter book sales. For more information, call 949-3390. Obon Festival this weekend
The mid-summer Buddhist holiday the Obon Festival and Bazaar is set from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m., Sunday, at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple, 575 North Shoreline Blvd.
The Bon Odori dance will be performed at 7 p.m., Sunday. The dance expresses gratitude, respect and joy for the ancestors, relatives and friends who have influenced Buddhists’ lives. It is also a remembrance of departed loved ones as well as the living.
There will also be game booths, Japanese and western foods, cultural exhibits, a flower shop, books and entertainment, and on Sunday, hands-on cultural activities for children. For more information, call 964-9426.
Golf tourney for Hunger program
The 14th annual Ecumenical Hunger Program Golf Invitational is scheduled for Monday at the Los Altos Golf & Country Club.
Tournament entry fee is $250, which includes green fees, cart, lunch, post-golf reception, tee prize and door prizes. Tournament sells out at 120 golfers.

Horsemanship camp at LAH riding ring
The Los Altos Hills Horsemen’s Association has scheduled their Junior Horsemanship Day Camp, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday through Sunday, at the Los Altos Hills Town Riding Ring, located on Purissima Road south of Viscaino Road.
