ROBERT M. ELLIOTT

Family members arranged for the planting of a redwood tree in Los Altos in memory of Robert M. Elliot, DDS, who practiced dentistry in Los Altos at Loyola Corners from 1956-1965.

Dr. Elliott was born in Minneapolis, MN on August 19, 1918, and grew up in the nearby town of Excelsior, where he graduated valedictorian from high school. He attended the University of Minnesota, graduating from its dental school in 1943. In that same year, he joined the Army Dental Corps and was stationed at Fort Crook, NB. While stationed there, he married Margaret in 1944, and continued to serve in the Army until 1946. Upon return from service in the South Pacific, he set up dental practice in Minnesota and had three children. In 1956, he and his family moved to California, at which time he set up his dental practice in Los Altos. In 1971, he initiated the annual and long-standing Spaghetti Dinner as a fundraiser for the Los Altos High School Marching Band.

Robert Elliott passed away in Keizer, OR on December 15, 2004. At the time of his death, he was survived by his first wife, Margaret Elliott of Los Altos, his three children, John Elliott of Raleigh, NC, Janet Elliott of San Francisco, CA, and Steven Elliott of Los Altos, CA; his three granddaughters, Lesley, Raosame and Lindsay; his great-granddaughter Aubrey; and his second wife La Verne of Keizer, OR.

The young redwood is planted in Lincoln Parkway across from St. Nicolas Church. The Elliott family wishes to express gratitude to the City of Los Altos for offering the opportunity to plant a living memory in the name of Robert Elliott, and hopes the native tree beautifies and enriches the environment, as it grows and lives the cycles of life representing all things eternal.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
