This flag collage is one of the main attractions of the new Los Altos History Museum exhibit.

Flags and popular interpretations of flag motif are on view during the museum’s new exhibit, “Hooray for the Red, White and Blue!” The exhibit is scheduled to run through Jan. 8.

The decorative and graphic arts exhibit will feature the flag-themed collection of Kit Hinrichs, a well-known graphic artist and collector. As part of a newly designed staging of the J. Gilbert Smith House, other local collections of flag-themed artifacts will be displayed.

The museum exhibit will also feature three special “Summertime Crafts” events for ages 6 -12.

Scheduled on July weekday afternoons, the hands-on activities include primitive painting and other simple arts and crafts in a “make ‘n’ take” format.

This summer’s “Family Film Night” 7 p.m., Aug. 4, will feature the classic movie “The Music Man.” The audience can bring picnic dinners before the film starts at 8 p.m. Picnic tables, chairs, free popcorn and refreshments will be provided.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

When members of the Los Altos Village Association first created the summer movie nights, they anticipated an event that would attract more residents downtown as a way to promote business.

What they didn’t anticipate was an influx of middle schoolers, or that parents would use the weekly Friday night affair as an opportunity to drop off their children and have someone else (in this case, the Village Association) effectively watch over them.
