The sponsors of Glorious 4th, the annual Independence Day celebration, are preparing a fun-filled day of music and entertainment. This year’s picnic will be held 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, at Shoup Park, 400 W. University Ave., Los Altos.
Beginning at 10:30 a.m., Ye Olde Towne Band will be striking up their instruments as residents, friends and family from Los Altos and Los Altos Hills gather.
Attendees are welcome to come early and stake out space for their chairs or blankets on the grass.
Lunch and ice cream will be available for purchase, or guests are welcome to bring their own picnic lunch.
Limited general and disabled parking is available in the park on a first-come, first-served basis.
Event organizers encourage attendees to walk, bicycle or carpool to the festivities.
The program will begin at 11 a.m., featuring Los Altos Councilman John Moss as emcee; remarks by Los Altos Mayor David Casas and Los Altos Hills Mayor Breene Kerr; and a musical tribute to the Fourth of July featuring Ye Olde Town Band, a barbershop quartet the Four Tune Cookies, and a patriotic sing-along.
After the program, visitors can picnic in the park and continue to enjoy the music of the Los Altos Big Band.
Local Girl Scout troops will provide children’s activities, and Sir Lance, a local balloon artist, will be on hand to entertain children with his balloon designs.
The Glorious 4th celebration is sponsored by: American Legion Post 558; City of Los Altos; Los Altos Boy & Girls Scouts; Los Altos Community Foundation; Los Altos Town Crier; Ye Olde Towne Band; and Los Altos Big Band.
