The Los Altos Village Association begins its second year of weekly summer movie nights, beginning at dusk (approximately 8:30 p.m.), June 17. Movies will be shown every Friday on Main Street, between Second and Third streets, for 10 weeks.

The first movie, “Miracle,” (2004) tells the story of Herb Brooks, the player-turned-coach who led the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team to victory over the seemingly invincible Russian squad.

Movie nights will feature a bounce house and face painting for children, and music. The street will be closed off beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Many downtown stores will stay open until 8 p.m.

Other movies on tap include “The Natural,” “Shrek,” “Chicago” and “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.”

Ted Garrett, executive director of the village association, said the second annual event is back by popular demand. Last year’s inaugural event went only five weeks.

“We started with about 150 people the first night. By end of the series, we had between 500 and 600 people there,” Garrett said. “The crowds kept growing. This year we decided it was so popular, we’ll do it all summer long.”

Garrett added, “We are asking all the stores to stay open later,” so that movie-goers can get in some shopping prior to the start of the films.

“We encourage people to bring their chairs down early,” he said.

Garrett said all the films being shown are “family oriented.”
