Naval association seeks members

The California LST (Landing Ship Tank) Association is looking to attract new members. The association is open to anyone who served on an LST, landing craft tank, landing craft infantry or other amphibious vessel.

The LSTs, used in the European and Pacific theaters during World War II, were the most common of all naval vessels.

According to the United States LST Association Web site, there were 1,051 LSTs built during the war to carry troops and supplies to American and Allied positions. When the war ended most of the LSTs were scrapped, modified or given to navies of other countries, according to the association.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
