Local diva Molly Bell had an idea. Bring together some of the Bay Area’s most talented female stage performers for a showcase performance and you’d have a great show - a show that might be a way to raise money for victims of cancer.

Bell put her idea into action and has rounded up 10 of the Bay Area’s best leading ladies and rising stars for the benefit concert, scheduled 7 p.m., June 8, in the Eagle Theater at Los Altos High School. Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.

Bell’s efforts to organize “Divas For Life” were motivated by the death of her father by cancer five years ago.

“It’s a great way to turn a bad experience in my life into a positive experience,” she said.

With 10 years’ experience on the stage, the last two professionally, Bell is friends with some of the area’s most experienced divas. Her work as a cardio dance instructor and a private teacher of acting and voice has put her in touch with the next generation of stage talent.

“Opera Diva” Kristen Sharpley is a graduate of St. Francis High School; “Princess Diva” Katherine Von Till went to Los Altos High School.

Bell, the “Diva Gone Wild,” grew up performing with the Los Altos Youth Theater program and is a graduate of St. Francis. After high school, she went to New York, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in theater from Marymount Manhattan College. She is also a graduate of The Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Santa Maria. Bell has performed in more than 20 musicals, including two at the Bus Barn Stage Company.

Concertgoers can expect an evening of upbeat musical songs, some funny and some touching, according to Bell. Performances will include song and dance numbers accompanied by piano with performers revisiting some of their signature roles.

Tickets are $25. A V.I.P. reception, $45, is scheduled 8:30 p.m., at the Main Street Cafe & Books, 134 Main St., Los Altos.

Los Altos High School is located at 201 Almond Ave.
