Image from article Vosovic named Homestead\'s Teacher of Year
In appreciation for his mentoring, several Homestead High teachers awarded Larry Vosovic a crown and teacher of the year sash before the board meeting where he was honored earlier this month.

The Fremont Union High School District recently named English teacher Larry Vosovic teacher of the year for Homestead High School.

Vosovic technically retired June 30, 2004, but he returned to Homestead to teach one English class this school year.

Vosovic is known as the “true Pied Piper of professional development at Homestead High.” During his 38 years of teaching, he hosted a great many social events where teachers could discuss different strategies for teaching and learning in a casual environment.

He has enjoyed working with all his students and said the secret of his success is “to always teach the student in front of him.” Many of his former students still stop by to visit him long after they have graduated.

“That Larry Vosovic has had a tremendously positive impact on countless Homestead High School students over the years goes without saying,” said Graham Clark, Homestead’s principal. “Beyond that, however, that Larry has taken so many young teachers under his wing and mentored them means that his impact will continue for many years to come. His legacy at Homestead is truly powerful.”

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
